We hope you’re well insha-Allah. As you may know, we will be experiencing a lunar eclipse tomorrow (Wednesday, January 31, 2018) beginning at approximately 5:50 am. The moon will appear to be larger and different in color as the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. In Arabic, this is known as ‘Khusuf al Qamar‘. The Qur’an uses this same term to illustrate what will happen on the Day of Judgment (See: Sura Qiyama 75:8).
It was the Prophet’s (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) advice during such times to engage in prayer, to beg Allah for forgiveness through dua and give charity. (Bukhari) We are all encouraged to enact this Sunnah by waking up before Fajr prayer and performing two or four rak’aat of voluntary salah and making dua. Let us use this opportunity to speak with our families and children about Allah’s power and His Oneness.
